The Wedding Theme: Steampunk
Hey all,
Firstly I’d just like to announce how happy Shelby and I are to have such a great following of subscribers and readers so far. Just in our first month of posting we have almost 3000 hits on the site, a number of posts and great feedback from people! Keep reading, trackbacking and posting!
Now to get to business!
We are officially announcing that our wedding will be Steampunk themed!
What is Steampunk and why did we choose it?
Steampunk is:
- a genre, style and subculture
- usually set in the Victorian era
- combines old-style class with modern and mechanical technology
- lots of gears, sprockets, cogs, mechanical devices
- can include digital technology
- similar to “Cyberpunk” genre
- originates from modern interpretations of HG Wells, Jules Verne, etc.
Here are a few photos to look at to give you an idea of the style:
Examples of what to expect at the wedding:
- gear/mechanical cufflinks and pins
- small Victorian influences in the decoration and Wedding clothes
- Steampunk decor at the reception
- recycled/reused products
- sustainability
- technology
- FUN and DIFFERENT styles at the ceremony and reception
Examples of what NOT to expect at the wedding:
- outrageous costumes at the ceremony
- bad taste
- a boring wedding
- a small wedding
- inappropriateness
So there you have it! If you have any questions or anything, feel free to post a comment. Finally, aside from checking out the above link to the Steampunk Wikipedia entry, Shelby and I found this great website that has jewelry and accessories (for both genders) in the Steampunk style. We’ll have more posts up in the future about our expectations for guest attire but it’d be a good idea to buy any Steampunk jewelry/accessories you think might be in sync with the theme.

Just a quick note:
We’ve had some responses from people and just want to clarify that we don’t expect people to come to the wedding dressed up in Steampunk attire. If you do all the power to you and I’m sure it’s going to be more fun that way, but it’s not required!
The theme and decor for the wedding will all be Steampunk and the wedding party to some effect will be punk’d out, but we don’t expect everyone to come decked out!
