A Change of Plans

There are some rumors going around about our change of plans and I would like to formally anounce the details here so everyone can hear what’s *officially* going on!

After a small bout with the application process to work in Vancouver, Shelby and I have realized a few things:

  1. I would be able to live legally in Vancouver with her…
  2. but I can’t work until I have a work permit or visa-
  3. …which can take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to get formally.

Therefore we are OFFICIALLY NOT MOVING TO VANCOUVER!

At first we were quite disappointed and frankly we are a bit overwhelmed with the change of plans. We wanted to do things the right way and by working under the table until any permits go through, well that would just undermine the idea of doing it right.

Not to mention the fact that Canada gives first preference to naturalized citizens and most likely won’t hire someone under the table unless it’s a job that is probably not really worth doing.

Here’s what’s happening-

-We originally thought it would be a good idea to move to Seattle (or Portland) because of the proximity to Vancouver; the idea being that when the paper work for Vancouver finally goes through we can just truck on over the border having lived (probably) for a year or so in Seattle» .

-In any case we’ve decided that in fact we are STAYING in this region of the US. We looked at some prospects in Chicago and a few other cities including Raleigh, Boston, Providence and others but the most promising at this point is…

Boston!

Boston City

There are a couple of important ideas that are drawing us there currently. This is our reasoning for staying over here-

  1. It is closer to family for both of us. My sister Natalia is starting University at NYU and Shelby’s mother lives in upstate NY. My grandmother also lives in Ohio which is somewhat nearby.
  2. We will be in proximity to Ithaca so we can take care of wedding details and come into town if need be.
  3. The cost of living is relatively low compared to some of the other places we were looking at but there is just as many things we enjoy in Boston as in Vancouver so that will keep us busy in the mean time.
  4. Lots of job prospects and friends out in the area to spend time with.
  5. Moving to Boston will satisfy our urge to leave Ithaca while giving us the leeway to SAVE MONEY for the Wedding and eventual move to Vancouver.
  6. Once we are married, we can get work permits/visas easier.

**Please note that the eventual goal is still Vancouver and we may one day make it, but we intend to get jobs and settle in Boston for a while and establish ourselves there.**

OR PORTLAND! ;)
