Andrew launches a new website! How and Why…
I’m launching a brand new design for my portal site: http://www.whoisandrewgarcia.com
As a result of my intense resumé design process and the cultivation of new contacts to help with the job-seeking front I decided to completely redesign the face of my personal website whoisandrewgarcia.com.
I wanted to impress potential employers and also try out the MooTools framework for visual effects. After some time contemplating the design scheme I started reflecting on my own life and what I wanted the site to be about. Originally I had hoped for a personal set of links to launch into my array of blog(s) and DJ site and the original version of the site» reflected that need. It was a simple, flash-based minimalistic forray into portlet design.
The new version called for a response to the massive move to AJAX and CSS/xHTML-based Web 2.0 designs, common today. Decidedly, the framework for WhoIsAG version 2.0 would be constructed from CSS/xHTML with some javascript and an implementation of the MooTools Slide FX framework (which I had dabbled with previously — it’s pretty impressive and fun!).
I sat down and really gave it some thought and sketched up a mind/body/soul schema that would allow me to categorize my hobbies, skills and interests. After a week of solid paper design and then digitizing my concept, I had a working model of what I wanted. Development and coding ensued and after a solid week of working on it I finally had a working model that I deployed to my server.
The real work came following that deployment when I spent the last two weeks doing browser testing and debugging for functionality and cross-platform/browser conflicts.
The result is one of the most unique personal websites I’ve made in a while!
I want to throw out a special thanks to Shelby for all the feedback and patience she had during the design, development and debugging phases.

Hey Andrew and Shelby! Great website, an innovative way to keep in-touch with friends and family; you two are an inspiration to me
Best of luck to your future together and starting a family/life as husband and wife, as well as good luck with the job hunt Andrew, your website is killer and you should be proud of your accomplishments. I especially took interest in your Cyborg blog. Take care.

Hey!
Righteous CSS/JavaScript design on that site, although I’m not sure you should call it “web 2.0″
Either way, have fun in beantown and keep being awesome.
See you soon
