What’s this? Andrew has a job?

Not more than a few weeks had gone by after our initial sojourn to Boston and after intensively applying for jobs online and throughout the summer I finally hit the jackpot. Right at the beginning of September I interviewed at the Prudential Tower with CSN Stores for a Customer Service role that was open.

After a very successful interview, I was ushered onto a second-tier interview that same day and was given a tour of the office. It seems I had the job and not more than a few days later, I heard directly from CSN Stores’ HR department that I was accepted!

What Is CSN Stores?

Many of you may have heard little bits and pieces about what I do and I have had a lot of questions about the job and the company…so I figured I’d write up this post about it. CSN Stores is an online retailer. We are the only E-Commerce company to approach Amazon’s level of success with our goal of becoming a house-hold name.

The company itself is a $300M business with a reputation for superb customer service and easy shopping through powerful web software engineering and clever code wizardry. In fact our tag line is “Shop Easy”.

What do I do?

I was hired as a Customer Service Representative for the Youthwares team. We have since done some moving around (we are growing very, very quickly so things are changing rapidly) and so now my team focuses on Youth, Fitness and Rec Room product categories (think children’s toys, furniture, playground setups, car seats, fitness bikes, etc.).

I have quite a few responsibilities ranging from managing supplier communications and corresponding with customers to making sure the life of an order is maintained according to our standards and shipping model. On my team I am a Returns (and Replacements) specialist and a department Foreign Language Specialist. So I do take quite a few calls in Spanish and French on a nearly daily basis.

Why I love CSN!

There are too many benefits to list, but there quite a few reasons why I love my job.

  1. Firstly, the culture is rad. Lots of great people with diverse backgrounds…and eclectic mix of eccentric, smart and down to earth coworkers and managers. The company is very young (I don’t think I’ve seen anyone in the company who looks a day over 30 including the Vice Presidents and Presidents) and there is a great bar culture after work.
  2. Besides the competitive salary and full health benefits, company matched 401k, tons of subsidized and free goodies (movie tickets, food/beverages, corporate discounts, company ski trips, etc.) there is a great discount for employee purchasing from our stores (we own hundreds of online stores).
  3. Free tickets. I mentioned the subsidized movie tickets but we also get completely free awesome season tickets to Celtics, Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox games. I’ve been to four Bruins games in the past month with amazing front-glass seats every time. This is probably my favorite benefit.
  4. Lots of responsibilities and a fun work environment with lots of freedom and competitive bonuses make getting up at 7AM every day actually possible.
  5. 3.2 weeks of paid vacation time with the option to take even more paid time off if I accrue the time (or elect to owe the company for unaccrued time off that I take) and subsequent unpaid time off as well. No where else would I have the ability to get free front-glass Bruins tickets and get paid to take half the day off and see the game.

There are plenty of other reasons why I love the job but those are the top ones to come to mind.
