MY DRESS!! & Other Wedding Updates
Now that the new year has rolled by, my wedding date is getting closer and closer all the time. So, I have started the whole process back up since I put it on the back burner last summer in favor of concentrating on the move to Boston. I definitely need to be getting more done, but I’ve got a few things in the work currently.
The most exciting achievement I’ve accomplished is finding and purchasing my dress!! When Mallyn and Eric were here for New Year’s, we went out one afternoon to try on some dresses and be brides together. Lo and behold I found the perfect gown and bought it THAT DAY. It already fits perfectly so I’ll only need minor alterations and I’m just glad in general to have this past me. I bought the dress at Vows in Watertown, MA. It’s an outlet bridal boutique so I got a designer (Kenneth Pool) dress at a fraction of the price! Wooohooo!
Here’s a picture of the back of the dress on a model. It’s the only decent picture I can find on the web of the dress, which is fine by me, because I don’t want to reveal too much otherwise it won’t be as much of a surprise at the ceremony! My dress is a different color than this one.
I’ve also been doing a lot of research for bridesmaid dresses. I originally wanted to allow the maids to find their own dresses since I’d like them to buy a dress they’d actually like to wear again instead of spending money on a dress they might hate. I’d still like to do that, but it hasn’t turned out to be as easy as I’d hoped. Plus I think my maids are a bit confused about it since the Bride is usually the one who choses. Well, here’s what I’ve liked the most so far. Mallyn and I are going to go check it out next Monday to see what colors are available and what the price is. Hopefully it works out so I can cross that off my checklist as well! I’m not quite sure what I’ll be doing w/ the dresses yet. Mallyn suggested the MOHs wear the long version and then the maids can wear the “cocktail” length version, which is an idea I really like. Or the MOHs wear one color and the maids another. Or both. We’ll just have to see what we find out on Monday!
Otherwise I’m currently working on designing invitations and getting some sort of guest list squared away. Soon I’ll be contacting everyone for their addresses so I can start compiling them. If you’d like to go ahead and send me your address now, that would be helpful!
Invitations are my focus currently. Andrew is working on squaring away some blocked rooms at various hotels in the Ithaca area. We’ll post more about that when we figure it out! The information will also be contained in the invites when they get sent out.
Well, that’s pretty much it for now. I’ve been working a lot to start making some money to save for the wedding, and working on a few little crafts that I’d like to make for the wedding. Any ideas, inspiration, anything is welcome! Thanks!

Shelb!
C’est incroyable, t’a déjà ta robe et c’est vraiment jolie, bon, ce qu’on peut voir, mais je sais que tu va être la plus belle femme ce jour-là.
Bisous!

Shelby,
The dresses are beautiful! Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help!

So is the theme still steam punnk? if so, how much would you guyes like that to play into the attire of the wedding party? I have found a penguin suite with tails and all circa 19th century (grandparants attic) and I wanted to know how much the theme would be emphasized before I start refurbishing the tux.

Hey Charlie,
While the theme is still Steam Punk I think we are trying to build it more casually into the wedding without enforcing a strict dress policy.
For folks in the wedding party we’re going to have more traditional getups (ie Tux) with trinkets. Monocles, Gear pins, etc. Don’t worry I’ll be sending more info out around April about this with specifics. That said what you have sounds fine, I wouldn’t expect you to refurb anything.
Design wise we’ll have some Steam Punk things happening there, but bear in mind that our families are probably going to wear traditional wedding attire. Although we expect our friends to go with it…there are a few people we know who are definitely going to town on it.

Also don’t worry about trinkets…I’m taking care of that

sounds good. Will tux’s be rented so the all match? If so I won’t worry about it at all, otherwise I want to get the one I found to a seamstress for a touch up, it is like 100 years old and all.

That’s something I’m thinking about. The problem is we’d have to have all the guys together at one point well ahead of the wedding so we could get fitted, coordinated and get a group rental discount. So I’m still thinking about it.
What’s easier for you?
I might just have Alex and Adam coordinate with me and then the rest of the guys can go every man for himself OR standard tux more or less coordinated.
